Job summary

The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, is seeking an entry-level carpenter helper to support exhibition fabrication, installation and painting duties at the Visitors Center in Houston, TX. You will assist with casework, cabinetry, related fixtures and display components.

Responsibilities include supporting painters, installing panels and signs, handling materials, and maintaining tools and workspace. Must lift up to 75 lbs and work well in a team.

Qualifications

• Entry level carpentry and painting skills required.
• Ability to walk, stand, crouch for long periods and lift up to 75 lbs.
• Must have a valid driver's license and good driving record.

Responsibilities

• Assist carpenters with fabricating, delivering and installing exhibition casework.
• Build blocks, risers, and perform upholstery to display artwork.
• Assist painters with prep and painting of spaces: touch-up, prime and paint walls, ceiling, panels, trim, doors.
• Assist in loading and storing materials and display casework.
• Install didactic panels, banners and signs inside museum spaces.
• Help with shop clean‑up and keep tools lubricated and organized.
• Perform preventative maintenance on tools and equipment daily.
• Other duties as assigned.
