Job summary

The Museum of Fine Arts Houston is seeking an Associate Preparator to ensure the professional, safe and timely preparation, care and handling of artworks for display, exhibition and transport. The role requires art-handling expertise and the ability to work across multiple campus locations.

Responsibilities include installing, packing, transporting artworks, maintaining storage and prep areas, and supporting conservation and courier duties as needed.

Qualifications

• 5+ years art handling experience.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
• Knowledge of art museum collection care and exhibition practices.
• Experience in mount making, matting and framing (preferred).
• Weekend and evening availability as required by exhibition schedules.

Responsibilities

• Handles, installs, packs, and unpacks artwork at all museum buildings locations.
• Installs/deinstalls artwork for temporary exhibitions and rotations.
• Transports artwork in the museum truck between campus buildings.
• Gallery maintenance of pedestals, vitrines, and casework.
• Maintains organization of artwork in storage areas and prep spaces.
• Represents MFAH as courier for installation, transport or exhibition research.
