Job summary

The Museum of Fine Arts Houston is seeking an entry-level carpenter/painter helper to assist with fabrication, installation and maintenance of exhibition casework and fixtures. You will support painting, assembly, and installation tasks throughout museum spaces.

Responsibilities include constructing display elements, upholstering where needed, installing signs and panels, and helping with general shop housekeeping. Possess basic tool skills and a valid driver's license; able to lift up to 75 lbs.

Qualifications

• 1 year experience with cabinetry, laminates and installations
• Previous painting experience
• Wall framing and drywall experience a plus

Responsibilities

• Assists in fabricating, delivering and installing exhibition casework and fixtures.
• Builds blocks and risers, and performs upholstery to display artwork.
• Assists in painting museum spaces: touch-up, prime and paint walls, panels, trim, doors.
• Loads and stores materials and display casework
• Installs didactic panels and banners inside museum spaces
• Keeps tools organized and performs daily maintenance on equipment
• Performs other duties as assigned
