Museum Curator Analyst

Department: EHE | Human Sciences Administration

The Fashion and Retail Studies program at Ohio State seeks an innovative staff member to serve as a part‑time Curator for the Historic Costume and Textiles Collection. The Curator would be responsible for supporting the operational needs of the collections space at 250 E Town St, ensuring environmental integrity, facilitating donor and membership processes, and coordinating logistics related to site access and volunteer engagement.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in an on‑site meeting to describe specific moving and transportation requirements of collection elements as they move back to Campbell Hall.
  • Review plans for high‑density storage that will be located in Campbell Hall and designate where items will be moved to within the storage system once the building reopens.
  • Respond to move‑related emails and attend virtual move planning meetings every two weeks (
  • Participate in on‑site move‑related activities starting in April of 2026. This includes preparation and labeling of items that are moving to Campbell Hall, providing expertise about historic costume and textiles needs during the move, set up of Historic Costume and Textiles‑occupied spaces in Campbell Hall, and assisting with the decommissioning of rented space where the collection is currently stored.
  • Conduct bi‑weekly inspections of the collections space at 250 E Town St to monitor environmental conditions such as leaks, temperature, and humidity.
  • Manage the collections phone line, responding to inquiries, research requests, and donation offers.
  • Renew institutional memberships with professional organizations including the American Alliance of Museums (AAM) and the American Association of State and Local History (AASLH), ensuring access to member benefits such as discounted catalog hosting.
  • Monitor incoming mail for donor contributions and ensure timely forwarding of checks to the OSU Foundation’s PO Box.
  • Process and deposit auction‑related checks, including Workday transaction entry and physical drop‑off at the designated on‑campus location.
  • Report building‑related issues to the designated facilities contact.
  • Coordinate and oversee the return of mannequins from various locations to the collections site.
  • Schedule and attend on‑site meetings and facilitate IT access requests as needed.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for volunteer concerns, ensuring timely and appropriate responses.
Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • 0 years of relevant experience required.
  • 0-2 years of relevant experience preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Fashion and Retail Studies or Museum Studies or related area.
  • Textile conservation knowledge and experience.
  • Curatorial and exhibition experience with historic apparel and textiles.
  • Successful teaching experience both in‑person and online including large courses.
  • Knowledge of Past Perfect (preferred) or other museum collection software.

  • Target Salary: $20.24 - $26.44.
  • Location: Town St, 250 E (2313).
  • Position Type: Temporary (Fixed Term).
  • Scheduled Hours: 20 per week.
