Job summary

City of McKinney is seeking an Accountant to perform governmental accounting, auditing, and financial reporting in accordance with GASB and GAAP for municipal finance. You will compile financial reports, assist with budgets, perform data analysis, and handle special projects within the Financial Services team.

The role may involve general accounting duties or assignment to specific areas, requiring accuracy, collaboration, and adherence to timelines in a fast-growing city environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or Public Administration.
• Three years of responsible experience in financial or accounting administration.
• Must pass a background check and drug screen.

Responsibilities

• Collect, analyze, and prepare financial information for accounting entries in the financial system.
• Prepare journal entries and financial reports.
• Maintain accounting workpapers for balance sheet accounts.
• Reconcile ledger transactions to external sources including bank accounts, subsidiary systems, debt schedules, etc., and resolve discrepancies.
• Participate in year-end audit process, including preparation of audit workpapers and journal entries.
• Review contracts for completeness, accuracy, and conformance with procedures.
• Ensure financial reporting complies with legal requirements and transparency standards.
• Maintain credibility by providing timely and accurate work.
• Respond to departments with general ledger inquiries and accounting questions.
• Treasury and Debt Management accounting.
• Capital Improvements Program budgeting and accounting.
• Fixed asset accounting including asset database and depreciation.
• Federal/state grant compliance, accounting, and reporting.
• Revenue accounting including billing receivables and accruals.
• Expense accounting including accounts payable and 1099 processing.
• Compliance reporting including transparency website and monitoring agreements.
