Job summary

The City of Aurora, Colorado, is seeking an Assistant City Attorney in the Criminal Division. This entry-level, full-time role prosecutes city ordinance violations and handles negotiations, trials and appeals in the Aurora Municipal Court.

Requires admission to the Colorado Bar and law school graduation, with opportunities to work on a range of municipal matters. Responsibilities include research, drafting legal documents, plea negotiations, and collaboration with city officials.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited law school and membership in good standing of the Colorado Bar.
• Experience with negotiations, trials, and appeals of municipal ordinance violations is helpful but not required.
• Thorough knowledge of statutes, rules, and procedures pertinent to city government and municipal court.

Responsibilities

• Serve as criminal trial and appellate attorney in the Criminal Division.
• Conduct research for trials and appellate briefs.
• Enter into plea negotiations with defendants or their attorneys.
• Interview victims and witnesses of crimes.
• Prepare and try cases of city code violations.
• Prepare pleadings, undertakings, discovery and drafts of appeals.
• Provide direct legal service on matters concerning the Charter, Ordinances or rules of the City.
• Perform other related duties as required.
