Attorney – City of Aurora
Base pay range: $85,790.00/yr - $107,237.00/yr
Sign‑on bonus: New employees are eligible for a $5,000 bonus, with $2,500 paid on the first payroll and $2,500 after successful completion of a 6‑month introductory period.
Responsibilities
- Prosecute City ordinance violations, including negotiations, motions, trial practice, and appeals.
- Conduct legal research and draft legal documents for cases in the Aurora Municipal Court, through the Criminal Division of the City Attorney’s Office.
- Enter into plea negotiations with defendants or their attorneys during pre‑trial conferences.
- Interview victims and witnesses, prepare pleadings, conduct discovery, and draft appellate briefs.
- Provide direct legal service on matters concerning the City Charter, ordinances, regulations, and local court rules.
- Perform various legal projects for the City Attorney’s Office and Municipal Court.
Qualifications
- Graduated from an accredited law school.
- Member, in good standing, of the Colorado Bar Association or has recently taken the Colorado Bar Exam, pending results.
- Experience with negotiations, trials, and appeals involving municipal ordinance violations.
- Knowledge of Colorado Revised Statutes, Aurora Municipal Code, local court rules, and Colorado Municipal Court Rules of Procedure.
- Strong legal research, writing, and courtroom skills.
- Ability to establish professional relationships with City employees, officials, and the public.
- High energy, positive “can‑do” attitude, accountability, and teamwork.
