Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
• Licensed to practice law in Michigan.
• Experience in municipal law, contract law, employment law, or public finance (including ARPA).
• Strong legal research, analytical, and writing skills.
• Ability to advise non-legal staff and officials clearly.

Responsibilities

• Conduct legal research and draft motions, briefs, contracts, memoranda, and opinions.
• Provide legal support to the Law Director for hearings, trials, negotiations, and other proceedings.
• Prepare, review, and advise on contracts and other documents to ensure compliance with laws and policies.
• Represent the City in litigation, administrative proceedings, negotiations, and other matters.
• Advise on ARPA funding, employment law, contracts, and municipal matters.
• Attend City Council or official meetings to provide legal guidance.
• Collaborate with departments, officials, and external counsel to achieve favorable outcomes.
• Maintain organized legal files and documentation.
• Stay informed of federal, state, and local laws affecting municipal operations.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
