Job summary

Legal Aid and Defender Association in Detroit seeks experienced general practice attorneys licensed in Michigan for full-time, part-time, or contracted roles to manage all aspects of case handling.

Responsibilities include providing a full range of legal services with court appearances, preparing pleadings and motions, assisting with funder reporting, and handling landlord/tenant, family law, and expungement matters. A hybrid schedule is possible and benefits are offered.

Qualifications

• 2–3 years of litigation experience (preferred not required).
• Juris Doctor degree.
• Admission to the State Bar of Michigan; in good standing.

Responsibilities

• Provide a full range of legal services, including advice, brief service, and representation, including court appearances.
• Prepare pleadings, memoranda, briefs, and motions; ensure thorough case and file management and timekeeping.
• Assist with funder reporting and evaluation requirements.
• Manage cases in landlord/tenant, family law and expungements; training provided if needed.
• Attend outreach clinics and present information on general law topics to the community.
• Participate in LAD’s service-area outreach efforts.
