Job summary

JW Affinity IT in Charlotte, NC is seeking a System Administrator to support the municipal technology environment, ensuring reliable, secure, and efficient Windows server, identity, cloud, and end-user services for staff and public services.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Microsoft enterprise environments, incident response, and user-focused technical support, plus a track record of maintaining system availability and documenting configurations for cross-department teams.

Qualifications

• Three to five years of professional experience administering Microsoft enterprise systems.
• Working knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and Microsoft 365.
• Experience troubleshooting server, endpoint, authentication, and application-related issues.
• Understanding of backup, recovery, patch management, and system-monitoring practices.
• Ability to document technical configurations and communicate effectively with both technical and nontechnical personnel.
• Associate or bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, certifications, and experience.
• Ability to successfully complete any background screening required for access to municipal systems and facilities.

Responsibilities

• Administer Windows Server environments, including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, file services, and print services.
• Manage Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, Entra ID, and user licensing.
• Provision, modify, and disable user accounts, security groups, permissions, and access rights.
• Monitor server availability, system performance, storage capacity, backups, and scheduled jobs.
• Install, configure, patch, and maintain physical and virtual servers.
• Support VMware, Hyper-V, or comparable virtualization technologies.
• Troubleshoot escalated incidents involving operating systems, applications, authentication, connectivity, and endpoint configurations.
• Assist with endpoint management using Microsoft Intune, Configuration Manager, or similar tools.
• Support backup, restoration, disaster recovery, and business continuity activities.
• Maintain system documentation, configuration records, inventories, diagrams, and SOPs.
• Apply security updates and remediate vulnerabilities in coordination with cybersecurity personnel.
• Participate in infrastructure upgrades, migrations, and municipal IT projects.
• Provide responsive support to employees across municipal offices and public-service locations.
• Participate in after-hours maintenance or on-call rotation when required.
