Job summary

The Town of Plainfield seeks a Civil Engineer to identify needs, scope projects, and deliver municipal infrastructure improvements through consultant design contracts and public infrastructure construction contracts. Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field; ABET-accredited program.
• 1-3 years related experience or training; equivalent education accepted.
• Engineer-in-Training certification is required.
• PE license preferred and required within five years of employment.
• Municipal/public works experience desirable; PMP may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Identify and maintain a list of priority infrastructure improvements.
• Select design consultants and construction contract methods for public projects.
• Review plans, specs, estimates, and bids to align with town expectations.
• Coordinate with field inspectors to ensure design compliance and safety.
• Support asset management systems including GIS databases.
• Collaborate with planning staff on land use and transportation planning.
• Respond to inquiries and provide technical assistance to stakeholders.
• Review private development proposals for compliance with standards.
