Job summary

J T is seeking a City Auditor to serve as the municipality’s chief accounting officer, directing internal controls, auditing operations, and financial reporting to ensure fiscal health and transparency.

The role requires strong leadership, extensive municipal accounting experience, and the ability to coordinate with executives and the CFO. Expect on-site work and a full-time schedule with extensive liaising with auditors and regulators.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible municipal finance or accounting experience.
• Certification as CGA or ability to obtain certification within 3 years of hire.

Responsibilities

• Strategic oversight of accounting operations and statutory compliance.
• Direct account closings and oversee key reconciliations with Treasury/Collector.
• Supervise budgets, transfer requests, and municipal financial software usage.
• Lead internal audit functions and update accounting policies as standards evolve.
• Prepare and submit state and federal financial reports, including tax schedules.
• Supervise accounting staff and train department heads on fiscal procedures.
• Liaise with external auditors and oversight agencies.
