Job summary

Village of Wheeling is seeking an Accountant with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field and 1-3 years of professional accounting experience. Responsibilities include reconciliations, financial reporting, budgeting support, and audit preparation for municipal operations.

The role reports to the Deputy Finance Director and collaborates with the Senior Accountant. Competitive benefits are offered, with a hiring range of $88,785–$125,282 full salary range.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field is required.
• 1-3 years of professional accounting experience, which may include budgeting, purchasing, or risk management.

Responsibilities

• Perform monthly reconciliation of investment transactions, including purchases, sales, and interest.
• Reconcile daily cash, credit card, and ACH transactions to the General Ledger.
• Reconcile and prepare revenue receipt schedules for major revenue sources, including taxes, utilities, and other Village revenues.
• Assist with monthly balance sheet reconciliations, including preparing adjusting journal entries for discrepancies.
• Reconcile and record accounting activity for the Police and Fire Pension Funds, including related journal entries and financial reporting.
• Prepare the Annual Treasurer’s Report and reconcile monthly legal bills.
• Prepare and record monthly journal entries and maintain accurate accounting records.
• Assist with annual audit preparation, including work papers, supporting schedules, and fixed asset records.
• Assist with annual budget preparation and administration, including budget materials, meetings, public notices, and distribution of final budgets.
• Support risk management and Tax Incremental Financing (TIF) reporting, as well as preparation, attendance, and minutes for annual Joint Review Board meetings.
