Job summary

Village of Lemont, Illinois is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to lead the Finance Department. The role supervises four staff, oversees payroll, accounts payable/receivable, and maintains GL integrity while guiding audits, budgets, and compliance across municipal finances.

The ideal candidate has a strong governmental accounting background, a CPA is preferred, and advanced Excel/ERP skills are required to support reporting and financial analysis for a growing community.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Public Administration, or closely related field.
• CPA license strongly preferred; candidates with significant governmental accounting experience considered.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and oversee daily Finance Department operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash receipts, and payroll.
• Reviews payroll, accounts payable and accounts receivable batches.
• Maintain the integrity of the general ledger, including reconciliations, journal entries, and cash management.
• Lead and coordinate the Village's annual audit and prepare required financial documentation and reports.
• Assist with annual budget preparation, capital planning, financial reporting, and grant administration.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, GASB, federal and state requirements, and applicable municipal regulations.
• Prepare and coordinate required federal, state, and regulatory financial filings.
• Provide financial analysis, reporting, and recommendations to the Finance Director and Village leadership.
• Supervise, develop, and evaluate Finance Department staff.
• Assist with financial policies, procedures, process improvements, and ongoing contracts.
• Oversee the annual vehicle sticker program and other assigned Finance initiatives.
• Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
