Job summary

The University of Houston is seeking a skilled maintenance technician to perform a range of craft trades under minimal supervision. The role covers plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and general exterior maintenance, with emphasis on safety and reliability. Requires at least three years of relevant experience, a high school diploma or GED, and progress toward a second year of a U.S.

Department of Labor apprenticeship. A valid Texas driver license and security screening are also required.

Qualifications

Requires a minimum of three (3) years of directly job-related experience.
High School Diploma or GED required; education may substitute with apprenticeship.
Works toward completion of a second year apprenticeship per USDOL registered program.
Valid Texas Driver License required.
University system security-sensitive position; criminal history check required.

Responsibilities

Establishes and performs preventative maintenance schedules for equipment and facilities.
Orders supplies and maintains inventory for skill trades.
May assist with training other maintenance personnel.
Performs plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, general maintenance, mechanical, HVAC, roofing, and exterior tasks.
Selects materials to complete work requests or projects.
Assists other crafts on larger projects and during scheduled moves and events.
May be assigned to emergency task forces as essential personnel.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
