University of Houston is seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician to perform a range of skilled trades in a campus setting, under minimal supervision. Responsibilities include preventive maintenance, basic to intermediate service on mechanical and electrical devices, and support for carpentry, painting, plumbing, and general campus upkeep.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes and performs preventative maintenance schedules for equipment and facilities.
  • 2 Orders supplies and maintains inventory for skill trades.
  • 3 May assist with training other maintenance personnel.
  • 4 Performs plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, general maintenance, HVAC, roofing and exterior maintenance as required.
  • 5 Selects materials to complete work requests or projects.
  • 6 Assists other specialized crafts on larger projects and with event setup.
  • 7 May be considered essential personnel and serve on emergency task forces.
  • 8 Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Description

Functions in a highly skilled craft capacity under minimalsupervision. Provides basic to intermediate service for mechanicaland electrical devices. Works in general construction andmaintenance, including carpentry, painting, plumbing, generalmaintenance exterior maintenance, and scheduled moves and eventsetup. Pursuant to the State of Texas Executive Order No. GA-48,this position researches, works on, or has access to criticalinfrastructure and requires the ability to maintain the security orintegrity of the University infrastructure. This position requirespersonnel be routinely reviewed to determine whether or notcriminal history or continuous connections for the government orpolitical apparatus of a foreign adversary might prevent theemployee from being able to maintain the security or integrity ofthe infrastructure.

  1. Establishes and performs preventative maintenance schedulefor equipment and facilities.
  2. Orders supplies and materials and maintains adequateinventory levels for skill trades.
  3. May assist with training other maintenance personnel.
  4. Performs the duties of skill trades such as plumbing,electrical, carpentry, painting, general maintenance, mechanical,HVAC, roofing and exterior maintenance as required.
  5. Selects materials to complete work requests or projects.
  6. Assists other specialized crafts in larger, more complexprojects, and assists other shops as needed including scheduledmoves and event setup.
  7. May be considered essential personnel and may be assigned toserve on special task force during periods of emergency.
  8. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
High School Diploma or GED Required

MQ: Requires a basic knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuationand simple mathematical functions like percentages, ratios, etc. asmight normally be acquired through attainment of a high schooldiploma or equivalent (GED). Prefer at least 288 hours of classroomand related study as designated by apprenticeship standards.Education verification will be conducted upon acceptance of anemployment offer.

Experience: Requires a minimum of three (3) years of directlyjob-related experience.

Certification/Licensing: Works toward fulfillment of second yearapprenticeship requirements as outlined in a U.S. Department ofLabor registered apprenticeship program.

Will require a valid Texas Driver License.
