Job summary

State of Rhode Island maintains and repairs a wide range of facilities and equipment, including plumbing, HVAC, electrical and carpentry. The Maintenance Repair Person performs skilled journeyman-type work across several trades and may supervise helpers.

Qualified applicants have 12th grade education or GED, plus 2+ years in related trades and a valid RI driver’s license. A military license, security clearance and background checks may be required for the role.

Qualifications

• Skilled in plumbing, carpentry, painting and HVAC with heavy equipment know-how.
• Ability to work from sketches and supervise a small team.
• Minimum education as stated; 2+ years in related trades.

Responsibilities

• Install and maintain plumbing fixtures, steam/heating systems and equipment.
• Perform electrical work and lighting repairs; inspect motors.
• Operate machine shop tools and perform general building maintenance.
• Repair roofs, walls, doors and minor structures; respond to emergencies.
