Job summary

Herker Industries, Inc. is seeking a skilled machinist in Wisconsin to operate lathes and turning machines, set tools, and verify dimensions per specifications. You will read blueprints, adjust speeds and tooling, and inspect parts with gauges and micrometers to ensure tight tolerances.

In this on-site role, you will monitor operations, position tools, and maintain coolant levels while following shop math and safety protocols. 2+ years of experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience preferred in machine tool operation.
• Ability to read blueprints, layouts and job orders.
• Familiarity with gauges, micrometers and dial indicators for inspection.
• Experience with setting cutting speeds, feeds and tool positions.

Responsibilities

• Adjust machine controls and tool settings to maintain tolerances.
• Replace worn tools and sharpen dull cutting tools and dies.
• Inspect workpieces using gauges, micrometers and dial indicators.
• Start lathe/turning machines and monitor operations for spec conformance.
• Position and verify cutting tools in toolholders with hand tools and measuring instruments.
• Study blueprints and job orders to determine material requirements and sequences.
• Move controls to set speeds, depths and feeds; position tools relative to workpieces.
• Refill and monitor coolant and oil levels in machines.
• Install fixtures, cams and stops to control stock and tool movement.
• Compute dimensions and machine settings from metal properties and math.
• Lift and secure metal stock; handle through machines with appropriate fasteners.
