Job summary

Windham Northeast Supervisory Union is seeking a Director of Maintenance based in Bellows Falls, VT, overseeing maintenance for Bellows Falls Middle School, Central Elementary, and Saxtons River Elementary. This full-time role includes hands-on duties, supervision of facilities staff, and coordination of preventative maintenance and safety programs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Experience in building maintenance, custodial services, facilities operations, skilled trades, or related field.
• Knowledge of building systems, custodial practices, grounds maintenance, and preventive maintenance.
• Ability to perform hands-on maintenance, custodial, and grounds work.
• Supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
• Strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with administrators and facilities staff.
• Valid driver's license and travel between district schools required.
• Proficient with technology and relevant software applications.

Responsibilities

• Supervise, schedule, train, and evaluate custodial and facilities staff.
• Coordinate daily custodial, maintenance, grounds, and snow removal operations.
• Assign work priorities and coordinate substitute coverage as needed.
• Participate in hiring, onboarding, and professional development.
• Approve time sheets and leave requests for facilities staff.
• Inspect and maintain buildings, grounds, equipment, and systems.
• Oversee preventive maintenance, repairs (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, painting).
• Direct custodial services, including cleaning, sanitation, and event setup/cleanup.
• Manage groundskeeping, snow/ice removal, and equipment operation.
• Coordinate contractors, vendors, inspections, and facility improvements.
• Develop and monitor facilities budget with CFO and manage inventories.
