Job summary

Windham Northeast Supervisory Union (WNESU) in Westminster, Vermont, seeks a visionary Director of Student Services to lead our special education programs and ensure compliance with Vermont Special Education Rules and IDEA.

Reporting to the Superintendent, you will oversee strategic direction, budget stewardship, and personnel management for student support services, while engaging families and community partners.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Special Education or related field.
  • Vermont License as Special Education Administrator (or eligibility).
  • Minimum 5 years as a special education teacher; 2 years as supervisor preferred.
  • Experience managing personnel and complex budgets.
  • Deep knowledge of IDEA and Vermont Special Education rules.
  • Strong data literacy and ability to inform instruction and policy.
  • Excellent communication with students, families, and partners.
  • Experience designing learning environments and professional development.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and manage special education services to ensure systemic, continuous support.
  • Ensure compliance to state, federal, and local laws and process referrals.
  • Prepare and administer budgets and grants for special education.
  • Recruit, train, and evaluate a diverse special education team.
  • Liaise with district, agencies, and families to promote involvement.
