Job Description
Windham Northeast Supervisory Union (WNESU) is seeking a visionary and dedicated Director of Student Services to lead our special education programs. This leadership role is vital in ensuring that all eligible students receive high-quality, specialized services in full compliance with Vermont Special Education Rules and IDEA regulations. Reporting directly to the Superintendent, you will oversee the strategic direction, compliance, and instructional excellence of our student support services.
Core Responsibilities:
- Program Leadership: Direct and manage special education services to ensure they are systemic, continuous, and responsive to individual student needs.
- Compliance & Policy: Maintain strict adherence to state, federal, and local laws; manage the referral and eligibility process; and recommend data-driven policies to the board.
- Financial Stewardship: Prepare and administer special education budgets and grants, ensuring cost-effective programming and transparent communication with the Superintendent and School Boards.
- Personnel Management: Recruit, train, and evaluate a diverse team, including special education teachers, paraeducators, and related service providers.
- Collaborative Advocacy: Act as a liaison between the district, community agencies, and families to foster trust and encourage parent involvement.

Salary: $110,000 to $130,000 Per Year

Job Requirements
- Qualifications & Requirements: Education & Licensure Master’s Degree in Special Education or a related field. Current Vermont License as a Special Education Administrator (or eligibility for immediate licensure). Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience as a special education teacher. 2 years of experience as a special education supervisor is strongly preferred. Proven experience in managing personnel and complex budgets. Specialized Knowledge & Skills Regulatory Expertise: Deep knowledge of IDEA federal regulations and Vermont Special Education rules. Data Literacy: Ability to gather and interpret student achievement and budgetary data to inform instruction and policy. Communication: Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with students, families, and community partners. Instructional Insight: Ability to design learning environments and provide professional development rooted in current research and best practices.
- At least 5 year(s) of relevant experience preferred.
