Job summary

Morton IT Services seeks an IT Field Technician to deliver statewide, on-site technical support across Virginia facilities. You will deploy and maintain network switches, APs, cabling, and related IT infrastructure, collaborating with local staff and centralized teams. Travel and occasional overnights are required.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with enterprise switches, structured cabling, and basic networking, capable of independent work across multiple locations.

Qualifications

• 1+ year hands‑on experience installing, replacing, or supporting network switches.
• Knowledge of Ethernet, TCP/IP, VLANs, and subnetting with enterprise switches.
• Ability to rack, mount, cabling, label and replace network equipment.
• Familiarity with console access and basic switch configuration.
• Experience performing switch cutovers with minimal downtime.
• Travel across Virginia and overnight stays as needed.
• Valid driver's license and ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, replace, and maintain LAN/WAN equipment and APs.
• Rack and cabling in data centers or wiring closets.
• Perform switch cutovers and deployments with minimal downtime.
• Manage copper and fiber cabling, patch panels, and SFP/SFP+ links.
• Troubleshoot connectivity with ping/traceroute and tonoing tools.
• Update tickets and document deployments per templates.
• Provide routine activity reporting and health checks.
• Coordinate with site personnel for equipment deployments.
• Travel statewide across Virginia and support multiple facilities.
