Job summary

District Department of Transportation (DDOT) in Washington, DC, seeks a Transportation Engineer to advance safety and multimodal mobility. You will advise on complex traffic engineering decisions, lead studies, and review traffic signal and safety plans as part of TSA’s dynamic team.

Responsibilities include evaluating traffic operations, planning improvements, and supporting bus priority and protected bicycle facilities in coordination with Vision Zero efforts.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program or equivalent combination of education and experience with strong engineering fundamentals.
• Combination of education and experience providing knowledge of engineering sciences and practical applications in transportation engineering.
• Three years of progressive experience as an engineer, designer, or planner; 4-year degree can be substituted with 2-year post-secondary education plus 10 years of additional experience.

Responsibilities

• Advise management in difficult, advanced traffic engineering decisions and participate in multi-year and short-term work planning.
• Lead or contribute to investigations and analyses of street traffic conditions to justify traffic control measures and studies.
• Review plans for traffic signal systems, channelization, and safety improvements; prepare plans, specifications, and estimates.
• Analyze data on traffic operations, pedestrian planning, and transportation system safety; assess capacity, LOS, and safety outcomes.
