Job summary

Timmons Group is seeking a Civil Project Engineer I/II to join our Traffic Analysis and Planning Group in Raleigh, NC. You will support transportation and traffic engineering projects for state DOTs, local governments, and private-sector clients.

Essential duties include traffic operations analyses, safety studies, and multimodal improvements; you will prepare forecasts, design signals, and assist with work zone planning, collaborating with clients and teams to present findings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• 1–3 years of transportation or traffic engineering experience.
• Proficiency with Synchro, SIDRA, and HCS.
• Experience working with DOTs or local governments.
• EIT or PE licensure preferred.
• Basic CAD and/or GIS knowledge preferred.
• Bicycle, pedestrian, and multimodal project experience preferred.
• Knowledge of traffic analysis, planning studies, traffic safety, forecasting, signal timing, and ITS design preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform traffic operations analyses, traffic impact studies, corridor studies, access management evaluations, and intersection control evaluations, including innovative concepts.
• Conduct traffic safety analyses, including crash data review and countermeasure development.
• Develop traffic calming and speed management concepts.
• Evaluate and design bicycle, pedestrian, and Complete Streets improvements from feasibility to implementation.
• Prepare traffic forecasts, capacity analyses, and traffic simulation models using industry-standard software.
• Support traffic signal design, signal timing, and ITS design efforts.
• Assist with transportation management plans and work zone traffic control design.
• Coordinate and communicate with client staff and internal design teams; present findings.
