Job summary

The New York Botanical Garden in New York, NY is seeking a Maintainer to perform routine maintenance across garden properties, including painting, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, shop work and auto repairs.

Responsibilities include executing work orders, managing inventories, and setting up spaces for events. The role requires 3–5 years of maintenance experience, a valid driver’s license, and OSHA certification within six months of hire, with weekend availability.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of experience in general maintenance, preferably plumbing, masonry, carpentry, and electrical.
• Must pass a written and practical exam and be able to work weekends.
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification required or the ability to obtain certification within six months of hire date.

Responsibilities

• Fulfill assigned work orders with direction from management and clear communication with staff.
• Execute projects from inception to completion related to new structures or items.
• Maintain maintenance shops and storage rooms and comply with safety regulations.
• Monitor Assistant Maintainers and ensure safe, satisfactory project completion.
• Maintain records, inventory, and prepare reports on work and materials used.
• Inspect tools, equipment, and vehicles and manage inventory.
• Demonstrate proficiency with ladders, lifts, and work platforms.
• Perform office moves and assemble/move/deliver furniture and supplies.
• Set up tables, chairs, tents, stages and equipment for garden events.
• Perform snow removal using snow blowers and shovels.
• Participate in all training provided by the Garden.
