Job summary

New York Botanical Garden in New York, NY is seeking a Maintainer to perform routine maintenance and repair of buildings across all garden properties, including painting, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, shop work, and automotive tasks.

The role involves fulfilling work orders, leading projects from start to finish, maintaining tools and inventory, and supporting garden events and snow removal operations. OSHA-certified candidates are preferred.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of experience in general maintenance (plumbing, masonry, carpentry, electrical).
• Must pass a written and practical exam and be able to work weekends.
• Driver’s license required.
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification required or able to obtain within six months.

Responsibilities

• Fulfill assigned work orders and communicate with managers and staff.
• Execute projects from inception to completion for new structures or items.
• Maintain shops and storage rooms and ensure garden safety regulations.
• Monitor Assistant Maintainers and ensure safe, satisfactory project completion.
• Maintain records, inventory, and reports on work and materials used.
• Inspect tools, equipment, and vehicles and manage inventory.
• Demonstrate proficiency with ladders, lifts and other work platforms.
• Set up tables, chairs, tents, stages and equipment for events.
• Perform snow removal using snow blowers and shovels.
• Participate in training provided by the Garden.
