Job summary

The New York Botanical Garden is seeking an experienced Maintainer to perform routine maintenance and repair across Garden properties. The role covers painting, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, shop work, and automotive repairs.

Responsibilities include handling work orders, leading projects from start to finish, maintaining shops, and ensuring safety. The ideal candidate has 3–5 years in maintenance, a valid driver’s license, and OSHA certification or the ability to obtain it within

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of general maintenance experience, with plumbing, masonry, carpentry, or electrical work.
• Must pass a written and practical exam and be able to work weekends.
• Driver’s license required.
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification required or the ability to obtain certification within six months of hire date.

Responsibilities

• Fulfill assigned work orders and communicate with managers, team members, and garden staff.
• Execute projects from inception to completion related to construction or fabrication of new structures or items.
• Maintain maintenance shops and storage rooms in an orderly fashion and comply with Garden safety regulations.
• Monitor the work of Assistant Maintainers and ensure all projects are completed safely and satisfactorily.
• Maintain records, inventory, and prepare reports on work completed and materials used.
• Inspect tools, equipment, and vehicles and maintain supply inventory.
• Demonstrate proficiency in ladders, lifts, and other work platforms.
• Perform office moves and assemble/move/deliver furniture and supplies.
• Set up tables, chairs, tents, stages and equipment for Garden events.
• Perform snow removal using snow blowers and shovels.
