Job summary

National Electrical Engineering Consultants LLC is seeking a Protection & Control Technician to install, wire, test, and maintain P&C systems in high-voltage substations. The role requires travel across the U.S. to project sites and close collaboration with commissioning engineers.

You will perform testing, relay checks, and diagnostics while adhering to safety standards and utility requirements. This field-based position offers growth and exposure to renewable integration projects.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or technical certification in Electrical Engineering Technology.
• 2–5 years of experience in P&C field testing, relay maintenance, or substation operations.
• Familiarity with protective relays (SEL, GE, ABB, Siemens) and related software tools.
• Ability to read electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
• Proficiency with electrical testing tools and basic relay testing procedures.
• Travel to project sites across the U.S. and work in substation environments.

Responsibilities

• Assist in installation and wiring of protection and control panels, relays, and substation equipment.
• Perform functional testing, point-to-point checks, and verification of control circuits.
• Support commissioning and energization activities under supervision of engineers.
• Conduct routine maintenance and troubleshooting of protective relays, breakers, transformers, and SCADA systems.
• Operate test equipment such as multimeters, relay test sets, insulation testers.
• Verify relay settings, logic, and tripping schemes against design documentation.
• Document test results and field commissioning reports; follow safety procedures.
• Collaborate with engineers, construction teams, and utility representatives.
