Job summary

Riser Fitness, LLC in Costa Mesa, CA is seeking an experienced Payroll & Benefits Specialist to join our growing team. This on-site, full-time role focuses on multi-state payroll processing with emphasis on California wage-and-hour rules and tax requirements, while providing backup benefits administration.

You will ensure accurate payroll data, resolve discrepancies, process changes, and support HR with compliance, open enrollment, and employee questions in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of progressive, hands-on payroll experience in a multi-state environment including California.
• Strong working knowledge of state wage-and-hour requirements with ability to calculate regular rate of pay and final pay across states.
• Experience with overtime, double time, and various premium pays, plus deductions and payroll corrections.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (formulas, lookups, filtering, sorting) and working with payroll datasets.
• Experience with an HRIS/payroll platform and handling payroll changes, tax elections, and direct deposits.

Responsibilities

• Support end-to-end payroll processing for employees across multiple states.
• Review payroll data for accuracy including hours, bonuses, deductions, and reimbursements.
• Calculate regular rate of pay and apply it to overtime and premium pay calculations.
• Review timekeeping records and resolve discrepancies with managers.
• Process employee changes provided by HR (compensation changes, transfers, job changes, tax elections, direct deposits).
• Set up and maintain state tax withholding for new hires and relocations.
• Process final checks and off-cycle payrolls in line with state requirements.
• Respond to employee and manager payroll questions in a timely and professional manner.
• Maintain accurate payroll records and assist with routine audits and data validation.
