Job summary

Virginia Oncology Associates is seeking a top Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to oversee the operation of a Multispecialty Infusion Clinic for weekend monoclonal antibody infusions. This 20-hour-a-week role includes onboarding referrals via telehealth and providing incident-to coverage for weekend infusion appointments.

Qualifications

  • MSN required from an accredited program and completion of NP or PA program.
  • Two years of post-licensure hematology/oncology experience required.
  • Licensed RN with current state NP or PA certification and CPR.
  • Willingness to travel to multiple practice locations.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for clinic patients in an outpatient setting.
  • Initiate and document interventions.
  • Evaluate patient responses per protocol and document them.
  • Prescribe therapies per protocol/physician consultation.
  • Educate patients and families on needs and treatments.
  • Promote staff education and liaison between inpatient, SNF, and home care.
  • Incorporate evidence-based practice into care.
  • Manage infusion reactions and anaphylaxis independently.

Job description

Overview

Virginia Oncology Associates, the largest group of medical professionals in Hampton Roads and Northeast North Carolina, is devoted exclusively to cancer care and blood disorders and is seeking a top Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant candidate to oversee the operation of a Multispecialty Infusion Clinic (MSI) for weekend infusions of monoclonal antibodies. This position is 20 hours a week, weekends only. Successful candidates will onboard patient referrals to the clinic via telehealth visits and provide incident‑to coverage for Saturday and Sunday infusion appointments. Candidates must be able to directly manage infusion emergencies in the office. Top candidates must be willing to travel to the sites where appointments are offered throughout the month.

Responsibilities
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for clinic patients in an outpatient setting
  • Initiate and document appropriate interventions
  • Evaluate and record patient and family response within practice protocol
  • Prescribe drug therapies per protocol/physician consultation
  • Assess patient and family needs and provide education
  • Promote and provide staff education
  • Serve as a liaison between inpatient, skilled nursing, and home settings
  • Incorporate evidence‑based research into clinical practice
  • Independently work and manage any infusion reactions and anaphylaxis
Qualifications
  • Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited program for nursing education and successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner program or successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program
  • Two years of post Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant hematology/oncology experience is required
  • Experience and knowledge in the management of the physiological and psychological effects of cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment
  • RN State License and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in the practicing state, along with current state certification of Nurse Practitioner or current state license as a Physician Assistant
  • Current CPR certification required
  • Must be willing to travel to thevarious practice locations

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye‑hand coordination. Requires the ability to bend, stoop, twist; assist patients in moving; assist patients in arising from exam table or bed; push wheelchair patients; assist patients in arising from and returning to wheelchair. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
