Job summary

The New York State Center for Recruitment & Public Service seeks Maintenance Assistants to perform semi-skilled tasks across carpentry, electrical, plumbing, masonry, and painting. You will use hand and power tools and may supervise contractors to ensure timely completion of tasks.

Position requires 18+ years, English literacy, ability to lift 50+ lbs, and willingness to travel. Training on SFS, GFEBS, and SLMS may be required.

Qualifications

• Two years of full-time maintenance or mechanical work under supervision.
• OR Completion of an appropriate two-year technical school.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must be able to read and write in English.
• Must be able to operate tools and equipment safely.
• Must successfully complete training on assigned data systems (SFS, GFEBS, SLMS).

Responsibilities

• Perform routine semi-skilled maintenance and repair of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, masonry and related facilities.
• Maintain grounds: mow, trim, clear sites, remove debris.
• Conduct general facilities maintenance: clean, paint, move furniture.
• Troubleshoot facility or machinery issues and resolve promptly.
• Possess valid driver’s license to operate state vehicles.
• May supervise subordinates and coordinate with contractors as needed.
