Job summary

The role involves layout, alignment and welding of fabricated, cast and forged components to assemble structural forms per blueprints and metallurgy.

Responsibilities include selecting materials, planning layouts, applying welding techniques, and inspecting welds to meet specifications. Safety rules and supervisor directives guide daily activities.

Qualifications

• Capable of certifying on multi-process pipe welding (SMAW, GTAW, GMAW).
• May require x-ray quality certification.
• Able to read blueprints and metallurgy specifications.
• Follows procedures for welding in various positions.

Responsibilities

• Selects type and size of pipe or related materials per specs.
• Plans layouts, assembly and welding using geometry and metal properties.
• May use GMAW, SMAW, GTAW, SAW or FCAW processes as required.
• Lays out, aligns and fits components; welds in flat, horizontal, vertical or overhead positions.
• Connects welding unit cables, sets amperage, voltage and pulse per procedure.
• Operates welding gun, deposits welds consistent with fusion depth.
• Preheats pieces, cleans joints, and may perform basic repairs.
• Inspects bead size and adherence to specs; maintains tools and workspace.
