JL Allen Services, Inc. in Illinois is seeking an Accounting Specialist to join our financial team. This cross-trained role handles AP, AR, and payroll with accuracy and reliability.

You will process invoices, reconciliations, payroll, month-end close, and assist audits. Strong Excel skills and familiarity with construction or project-based accounting software (Trimble Viewpoint Spectrum) are highly valued. Bachelor's degree preferred; 3+ years of accounting experience required.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3+ years of professional accounting experience encompassing core financial functions.
• Experience handling AP, AR, and payroll operations in a multi-tasking environment.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related finance field strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with construction or project-based accounting software—Trimble Viewpoint Spectrum is highly desirable.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced skills in Excel.

Responsibilities

• Process full-cycle accounts payable, including matching, batching, coding, and entering vendor invoices.
• Reconcile vendor statements, resolve discrepancies, and respond to vendor inquiries in a timely manner.
• Prepare and process weekly check runs, ACH payments, and wire transfers.
• Manage full-cycle accounts receivable, including billing, invoicing, and payment posting.
• Monitor customer accounts for overdue balances and proactively manage collections.
• Perform bank deposits and reconcile AR accounts to the general ledger on a regular basis.
• Assist with processing multi-state payroll accurately and on schedule, ensuring compliance with regulations.
• Maintain payroll records, track hours, deductions, garnishments, and employee changes.
• Address and resolve payroll-related inquiries from employees and management.
• Assist with month-end and year-end close procedures, including journal entries and account reconciliations.
• Support internal and external audits by pulling documentation and preparing requested schedules.
• Maintain orderly financial filing systems and uphold confidentiality of financial records.
