Facility Operations , maintains our physical campus to supportresearch, teaching, and learning at Indiana University Bloomington.As a unit of Capital Planning and Facilities, Facility Operationsprovides wide-ranging services all with the goal of creating abeautiful, well-functioning campus.
Job Summary- Performs semi-skilled maintenance and repair on HVAC systems.Checks air vents and installs window air conditioning units.
- Assembles, installs and/or repairs wiring, electrical andelectronic components, machinery, equipment, and appliances.
- Repairs and performs minor maintenance on pipe systems andplumbing fixtures including repair of faucet leaks, vandal-proofstoppers, and shower heads. Clears drains using plunger andspring.
- Diagnoses mechanical problems and determines corrective steps,checking blueprints, repair manuals, and parts catalogs asnecessary.
- Performs routine preventive maintenance to ensure that machinescontinue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, andthe physical condition of buildings does not deteriorate. Repairsor replaces defective equipment parts using hand tools and powertools, and reassembles equipment.
- Repairs and replaces dry wall, paint, screens, glass, doors anddoor hardware, shade blinds, furniture, lamps, handrails, ceiling,and floor tiles, baseboard molding strips, etc. Repairs desk lamps,ceiling lights, sweepers, wet vacs, etc. Replaces light switches,ceiling lights, and fluorescent fixtures.
- Maintains parts, supplies, and equipment and advises supervisorwhen supplies need to be ordered. Uses tools ranging from commonhand and power tools, such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, andwrenches, to precision measuring instruments and electrical andelectronic testing devices.
- Assists in directing the work of others.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned,including general building maintenance duties. Drives Universityvehicles as needed. Works any shift as needed. 24-hour a dayemergency response as needed. Assist with snow removal activitiesas necessary.
QualificationsEDUCATION
Required- High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED).
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required- 2 years of multi-craft maintenance experience in facilitiesupkeep.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Required- Possesses a valid driver's license and ability to be insured byIndiana University upon date of hire.

Working Conditions / DemandsThis role requires the ability to remain in a stationary positionas well as the ability to move about the workplace for longdurations. It requires effective communication, the ability tooperate machinery, tools, and controls. The role requires theability to ascend/descend ladders/stairs, and to position one'sself in low level positions, detect a variety of chemicals and/orgases. The role requires the ability to ascend to rooftops and movein tight spaces to perform and complete inspections. The person inthis role must be able to perform the essential functions with orwithout an accommodation.
Available to work during inclement weather (i.e. snow and ice) whenweather emergencies dictate that the department is needed to takecare of the campus.
Additional InformationThe successful applicant will need to be available for daytimetraining for the first 6 months of employment.
