Job summary

Watco in Houston, TX is seeking a Mule Driver/Yard Jockey to move trailers on docks, yards, or warehouses. Starting pay is $19.00 per hour with 12-hour shifts and a variable schedule including day, night, and weekend shifts. Location: 14035 Industrial Rd., Houston, TX 77015.

You will inspect vehicles, spot trailers, and maintain yard organization to support efficient cargo moves. Responsibilities include following work plans from superintendents, performing safety inspections, and communicating

Qualifications

• Experience driving yard vehicles.
• Follow written and verbal instructions and meet deadlines.
• Adhere to safety protocols and keep a clean, orderly workplace.
• Physically able to bend, stoop, climb, twist, and lift up to 40 pounds.
• Clear communication with team, vendors, and customers.
• Work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, holidays, and on-call as needed.
• Valid Driver License.
• TWIC Card or ability to obtain one.

Responsibilities

• Obtain instructions from Superintendents and Clerks regarding work plans.
• Perform inspections including pre-trip and post-trip checks of yard vehicle and trailers.
• Move trailers safely from staging to loading/unloading areas.
• Spot trailers to assist with efficient cargo moves.
• Communicate clearly with team members.
• Use chains and straps to secure items for transport.
• Wear required safety gear at all times (vest, glasses, steel-toe shoes, hard hat).
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

Starting Pay: $19.00 per hour

Schedule: 12 hour shifts with no set schedule - including day or night shifts and weekend shifts as needed

The mule driver (also known as a Yard Jockey or Yard Tractor Operator) operates a specialized vehicle to move trailers on a dock, in yard, or warehouse, positioning them for loading and unloading. Their duties include safely maneuvering trailers, spotting them at docks, inspecting the vehicle, communicating with operations leadership and maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the yard.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Obtains instructions from Superintendents and Clerks regarding work plans
• Performs inspections to include conducting pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the yard vehicle and trailers to insure they are safe and functional
• Moves trailers safely and efficiently from staging areas to loading/unloading areas
• Spots trailers in accordance with operational plans to assist with efficient cargo moves
• Communicates as needed in a clear concise manner with other team members
• Utilizes chains and straps to secure items for transport
• Required Safety Gear must be worn at all times to include Safety vest, safety glasses, steeled-toe shoes, and hard hats must be worn on terminal or in yard.
• Performs other duties as assigned

• Able to follow written and verbal instructions and complete tasks on time
• Adheres to all safety protocols and promotes a clean, orderly work environment
• Physically able to bend, stoop, climb, twist, and lift up to 40 pounds
• Able to communicate clearly with team members, vendors, and customers
• Able to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, holidays, and an on-call basis as needed
• Valid Driver License
• TWIC Card or the ability to obtain one
