What You Will Do

The Maintenance Manager 5 (MM5) over Maintenance and Site Services - Technical Area 55 (MSS-TA55) will report to the Maintenance and Site Services Division Leader (MSS-DL) and to the ALDWP Division Leader (ALDWP-MNTC). As the Group Leader you will team with the Deputy Group Leader, first line managers, staff and the MSS Division leadership to provide excellent customer service and technical management of your group in support of the TA55 mission. You will lead your team and staff to assist/supplement them in ensuring effective program execution, sound fiscal stewardship, adherence to safety and security policies, program development, personnel development, and other business administrative issues. The MM5 will be required to work closely with the FOD, Operations, Engineering, and Programmatic groups in identifying and executing priorities. MSS-TA55 is responsible for providing maintenance services to FOD 1 and is responsible for the initiation, planning and execution of Facility Maintenance at the LANL's Plutonium Processing Facility.

What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Facility Management

In-depth knowledge of and experience with facility management including systems engineering design and maintenance, safety/authorization basis, configuration management programs, work control, facility control systems, small modification projects, and upgrades and renovations. Thorough knowledge of plant operating practices and procedures. Demonstrated knowledge of LANL requirements for Integrated Safety Management, Formality of Operations, Conduct of Maintenance, Conduct of Engineering, and Safety Basis. Demonstrated experience with LANL nuclear facility work control process.

Maintenance Operations

Expert knowledge on DOE O 433.1C, Maintenance Management Program for DOE Nuclear Facilities. In-depth understanding of and experience with hazard grading, facility work hazards, safety practices, operating configuration, and lock-out/tag-out policies and procedures. Expert knowledge of P950, Conduct of Maintenance, LANL's DOE approved Nuclear Maintenance Management Program. Demonstrated experience and ability to understand and interpret various physical, mechanical, and electrical documents, blueprints, drawings, and schematics. Demonstrated experience and skill in identifying problem areas, investigating alternative solutions, and determining action to be performed on problems affecting performance. In-depth knowledge of government regulations affecting facility maintenance and management. Demonstrated ability to utilize and manipulate a computerized work management system in maintaining and tracking project activities. Demonstrated experience with development and implementation of a T-week scheduling process, with Conduct of Maintenance and Operations and with cross organizational collaboration.

Leadership

Proven experience and skill in management, supervision, and human resources administration of assigned employees. Demonstrated experience and skill developing and implementing organizational strategies and objectives. Demonstrated experience negotiating, change thinking of, or gain acceptance from peers, upper management, and customers in sensitive situations without damage to the relationships. Demonstrated ability to provide strong leadership, mentorship, prioritization, and management of assigned employees in a collaborative and participative environment to build strong teams. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills within a facility management work environment. Demonstrated familiarity with formal qualification program(s) (i.e., Work Control Planner or Maintenance Manager).

Training/Certifications:

Professional Engineer (PE) Certification and/or Professional Certification as a Certified Facility Manager (CFM) or Certified Maintenance Reliability Professional (CMRP) desired.

Education/Experience:

Position requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution and 12 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

DOE Order 426.2 Minimum Requirements:

Position requires a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or related science, and 4 years nuclear experience. Education or experience that is job related may be substituted on a case-by-case basis. The degree may be used to substitute up to 50 percent of the experience requirement.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated experience scheduling and coordinating maintenance or operational work in a complex production environment, with an understanding of how to align work execution with programmatic mission and production priorities.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Laboratory's organizational structure.
  • Demonstrated experience with LANL business systems for management and administration of personnel including timekeeping, payroll, budgeting, travel, training and certification, performance reviews, and payroll policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated in depth knowledge of LANL maintenance program policy and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and present safety and technical briefings to large groups of a diverse workforce representative of all types and levels of workers.
  • Experience in LANL facility Operations, Engineering and/or Maintenance.
  • Active Q clearance.
Work Location:

The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position Commitment:

Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Clearance: Q

(Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance, and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

  • Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2A, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.

New-Employment Drug Test:

The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular Position:

Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Incentive Compensation Program:

Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
