Job description

What You Will Do

This position will report directly to a Manufacturing Manager 3 (MM3) in the Pit Technologies Division (PT). PT Division is responsible for providing manufacturing operations at TA-55 within ALDWP (Associate Laboratory Directorate Weapons Production).

The Manufacturing Manager 1 (MM1) position will support the assigned group under the guidance of the MM3. The MM1 will provide on the floor leadership for a team of approximately ten operations personnel executing nuclear material operations in PF-4. Key responsibilities will include shop floor planning, work oversight, and providing status of work performed. The MM1 will also perform work activities and mentor operations staff. The selected applicant will provide technical leadership and experience in managing the day‑to‑day floor operations in conjunction with the MM3 and Group Leader (MM4). The selected applicant will work across ALDWP and stakeholder organizations to facilitate successful execution of PT Division missions.

As a Manufacturing Manager 1, you will conduct both routine and job‑specific pre‑job briefings with all involved workers and provide technical expertise for the activities being performed. The selected candidate will assist in the oversight and management of self‑assessments and incident investigations and ensure corrective actions are properly identified and implemented. In addition, you will ensure that safety and security are an integral part of every task, including taking the necessary steps to stop work if continuing a job is unsafe or could compromise security. During temporary absences of the assigned FLM, you will serve as Acting First Line Manager for the team.

Shiftwork

Shiftwork may be required as this position needs 24/7 coverage and therefore may require a rotating shift schedule that includes nights and weekends.

What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements
  • Leadership: Demonstrated record of successful technical leadership and proven ability in supervising, mentoring, motivating employees, and developing personnel such as early career technicians.
  • Knowledge and Expertise: Experience planning for and managing tactical execution of work, tracking and reporting progress. Experience performing work in a manufacturing environment and executing work in compliance with facility requirements and conduct of operations.
  • Accountability: Demonstrated experience in implementing and maintaining formality of operations in a nuclear facility (or comparably complex facility) and demonstrated experience in developing procedural controls that tie the level of detail appropriately to the consequences of missing performance deliverables.
  • Communication: Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills as evidenced by internal and/or external interactions, meetings, and briefings; effective interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to interact with all levels of personnel and customers.
  • Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's degree and 1 year of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
  • DOE Order 426.2: Requires a High School Diploma and 3 years nuclear experience. Full‑time related academic training (e.g., degree programs, trade schools, vocational programs, etc.) may be substituted on a one‑for‑one basis for 2 of the 3 years nuclear experience.
Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge: Demonstrated experience with the Microsoft Office Suite, LANMAS, and Outlook calendar scheduling.
  • Nuclear Facility Compliance: Demonstrated experience executing work in compliance with facility requirements. Experience with nuclear high hazard facility operating requirements, safety authorization basis and/or Conduct of Operations planning and execution.
  • Clearance: DOE Q Clearance and HRP Certification.
  • Work Environment: This position requires 24/7 coverage and therefore may require working a rotating shift schedule that includes nights and weekends.
  • Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
  • Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is one year.

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. Achieving such clearance requires U.S. citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712.

712.11. These requirements include ongoing drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.

426.2A: This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2A, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry‑level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre‑offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular‑status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
