What You Will Do

RP-TA55 has a need for a Health Physics Manufacturer Manager 1 (MM1) professional to support programmatic, maintenance, and construction activities by implementing radiation protection compliance at Los Alamos National Laboratory in Technical Area (TA) 55. Reporting to a Manufacturing Manager 3 (MM3), the MM1 will be the lead supervisor and assist the first-line manager in the oversight and implementation of the Radiation Protection Program (PPP) by supporting work execution and coordinating Radiological Control Technician (RCT) resources. The MM1 will work closely with programmatic, maintenance, and construction personnel to ensure appropriate radiological controls are in place for the safe execution of work. In addition, the MM1 will provide guidance and mentoring to assigned RCTs, respond to radiological incidents, and ensure work documents and permits are ready and available for work. #Shiftwork

Training/Certifications

Ability to obtain DOE Radiological Control Technician Certification required via provided training.

Education/Experience

Bachelor's degree and 1 year of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupations

Requires a High School Degree, 3 years nuclear experience [full‑time related academic training (e.g., degree programs, trade schools, vocational programs, etc.) may be substituted on a one‑for‑one basis for 2 of the three years of nuclear experience].

Desired Qualifications

• TSQP qualified.
• Extensive problem solving skills, analytical skills and the ability to execute special assignments or procedure development consistent with radiation protection regulatory drivers.
• Extensive knowledge and experience responding to radiological incidents and emergencies.
• Skill to conceptualize and communicate major elements of radiation control procedures to both technical and non‑technical personnel. Working knowledge of actinide processing health physics.
• National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologists (NRRPT) Certification.
• RWP authority.
• Active Q clearance.

Work Schedule

This position may require 24/7 coverage, which could involve working a shift/weekend schedule. Employees may be eligible for shift differential pay when assigned by their manager. Shift/weekend assignments are at the discretion of the manager.

Essential Job Functions

Depth perception, binocular vision, reading vision, ability to speak, ability to discriminate speech, ability to hear in a normal range (500 to 3000 hz), standing, walking, use stairs, fixed ladders and ladders up to six feet, ability to lift 50 pounds and carry 35 pounds, and ability to wear respiratory/protective equipment.

Work Environment

Work at 7300-foot elevation in physically demanding environments near sources of ionizing radiation/contamination; indoors in radiological work areas.

Work Location

This position will be physically located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment

Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Clearance

Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Incentive Compensation Program

Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, October 31st. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
