Job summary

Lyra Technology Group is seeking a skilled Project Engineer to lead client-facing IT projects in the New York City area. The role requires hands-on delivery of server, network, cloud, and endpoint deployments within a fast-paced MSP environment, with on-site client work.

You will partner with PMs and account teams, document progress, and act as a technical advisor. Expect 50–75% travel to client sites, and a hybrid work model from the NYC office.

Qualifications

• 3-5+ years IT MSP experience including hands-on project engineering (mandatory).
• Strong experience delivering IT infrastructure projects from design through completion.
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365, Azure, Windows Server, AD and MSP toolsets (RMM, PSA).
• Hands-on experience with firewall and network platforms (Meraki, FortiGate, SonicWALL, or Sophos).
• Experience with Microsoft Entra ID and Intune, including CA policy and MDM/MAM enrollment.

Responsibilities

• Hands-on, technical element of client project delivery: onboarding, migrations, server moves, office builds, MDM/MAM implementation.
• Collaborate with project managers and account teams for updates and documentation.
• Serve as escalation point for project issues.
• Travel to client sites across NYC and surrounding area for installations and assessments (50–75%).
• Communicate clearly with clients as a technical advisor and expert.

We are seeking a highly skilled and driven Project Engineer to join our team. As a Project Engineer you will join our team and lead the implementation of client-facing technical projects across the New York City area. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced MSP environment, is comfortable working on-site with clients, and has a deep understanding of multi-tenant support, project execution, and modern IT infrastructure. You will be responsible for designing, deploying, and upgrading systems across a wide range of client environments. This includes servers, networking, cloud platforms, cybersecurity solutions, and endpoint technologies.

Your work as a Project Engineer has several components

• Function as a hands-on, technical element of client project delivery, including but not limited to:
  • Client onboardings and offboardings
  • Network installations and migrations
  • Windows server-to-server or server-to-cloud migrations
  • Office builds and moves
  • MDM/MAM + Conditional Access implementation
• Collaborate with project managers and account teams to provide regular updates and create and update documentation.
• Function as an escalation point for resolution of project issues.
• Travel to client sites across NYC and surrounding area for installations, assessments, and hands‑on technical work (estimated 50–75%).
• Communicate clearly with clients, acting as a technical expert and trusted advisor.

Our ideal Project Engineer has the following qualifications

• 3-5+ years IT MSP experience including a minimum of 2+ years of hands‑on project engineering experience (mandatory).
• Strong experience implementing IT infrastructure projects from design through completion.
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365, Azure, Windows Server, AD, and common MSP toolsets (RMM, PSA).
• Hands‑on experience with firewall and network platforms (e.g., Meraki, FortiGate, SonicWALL, or Sophos), including configuration, troubleshooting, and network assessments.
• Hands‑on experience with Microsoft Entra ID and Intune, including Conditional Access policy and MDM/MAM enrollment configuration and troubleshooting.
• Experience with server virtualization and migration (VMware, Hyper‑V, physical‑to‑virtual and virtual‑to‑virtual migrations).
• Ability to work independently and on multiple projects simultaneously.
• Strong aptitude for time and note entry within a PSA.
• Understanding of predictive and hybrid project methodologies, including roles, responsibilities, and work breakdown structure (WBS).
• Located in or near New York City and able to comfortably travel to client sites as required.

Preferred requirements

• Relevant technical certifications (e.g., Microsoft, CompTIA, Cisco, PMI).
• Specific experience with: Microsoft Azure, 365, and SharePoint.
• Meraki Networking.
• Windows Server.
• Modern security principals – MFA, SSO, Conditional Access, MDM, MAM.
