JOB SUMMARY:
The MRI Technologist is responsible for performing all aspects of MR imaging accurately and in accordance with established procedures and policies, contributing to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases in patients of all groups. They follow all regulatory guidelines and MRI safety precautions, maintaining professional standards of conduct and ethics as outlined by department expectations and professional organizations. The role includes accessing pertinent patient information, processing images, ensuring correct images, accurate billing and documentation, and recording exam information into the department's computer system. When not engaged in imaging activities, the technologist supports clinical team members.
Education, Experience, Training
- ARMRIT/ARRT in MRI certification is preferred; if not certified, at least 5 years of MRI experience is required.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience as an MRI Technologist.
- Graduate of an AMA-approved Radiologic Technology Program or MRI course.
- Current BCLS (AHA) certification upon hire or within 30 days.
- Venipuncture skills required.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Recognizes changes in patient’s condition and notifies the appropriate RN or physician.
- Proficient in using emergency equipment (e.g., checks crash cart according to policy).
- Maintains proficiency with unit-specific equipment, troubleshoots issues, and reports malfunctions promptly.
- Applies immobilization devices and shielding as required.
- Assists in patient movement to and from wheelchairs and radiographic tables using proper body mechanics.
- Performs diagnostic MR imaging, including general studies, contrasted scans, and spectroscopy, following all legal, licensure, regulatory, and professional standards, protocols, policies, and procedures.
- Marks images with correct labels and utilizes appropriate skills to achieve optimal image sequences.
- Communicates prep and aftercare instructions effectively to patients and/or families.
- Reassures patients regarding claustrophobia issues, guides them through the exam, or recognizes when to stop.
- Completes all necessary information, ensures availability of comparative films when needed, and maintains continuity of care.
- Notifies patients of delays or repeats and documents all procedures accurately in the computer system, including start/stop times, allergies, and technical data.
- Attends mandatory training in safe patient handling and lifting techniques.
- Maintains regular attendance and performs other duties as assigned.
