Qualifications
- Associate’s degree from an accredited school of Radiological Technology
- At least three months of clinical and on‑the‑job training
- Registry eligible or registered R.T. (MR) and/or ARMRIT certification; registrants must receive registration within six months of hire
- BLS certification required within six months of hire
- Proficiency in basic computer programs used for department record keeping
- Excellent communication, problem‑solving, and customer service skills
- Leadership, organization, and the ability to work independently within established procedures
- Positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills with patients, physicians, and staff
Responsibilities
- Operate MRI equipment for diagnostic purposes and maintain patient safety by using protocol and procedure considering age and special characteristics of the patient
- Receive, escort, and instruct patients entering the examination area
- Provide MRI services in a timely manner, completing work according to schedule and quality standards
- Clean, maintain, and troubleshoot equipment following manufacturer recommendations; report problems to supervisor and contact service department when needed
- Perform first aid and assist in cases of adverse reaction to contrast media or other emergencies
- Practice sterile technique and prevent cross–contamination of contagious diseases
- Ensure quality MRI procedures for radiologist interpretation
- Keep supervisor informed of unusual matters and seek advice and counsel as required
- Maintain appropriate supply levels within areas of responsibility
- Oversee on‑the‑job training for student technologists, non‑professional assistants, and newly hired MRI technologists
- Answer the phone with excellent customer service
- Practice safety specific to MRI environments
Physical Demands
Work involves substantial mental/visual fatigue from repetitive, detailed tasks requiring sustained alertness and concentration; operation of a personal computer or CRT for 40–70% of the time. Standing or walking for long periods, frequent lifting of light‑weight objects (≤20 pounds) and occasional heavier tasks, such as patient assistance, are required. Minor straining or fatiguing positions may be necessary.
