Job summary

Care New England Health System seeks an MRI Technologist to operate MRI equipment, prepare the unit, ensure patient safety, and provide high-quality images for radiologist interpretation.

Responsibilities include patient screening, selecting imaging parameters, obtaining consent when required, positioning patients with proper coils, and troubleshooting equipment while contributing to protocol development and staff education.

Qualifications

  • Formal AMA-approved radiologic technology program is required.
  • CPR certification is required.
  • Registered technologist by ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) is required.
  • Minimum of one year MRI experience or MRI certification by ARRT.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and calibrate the MRI unit for daily operations on both low and high field magnets.
  • Be able to select proper imaging parameters based on a patient basis.
  • Screen patients and visitors prior to entering MR procedure room.
  • Explain MRI exam to patients and obtain informed consent when required.
  • Obtain and record patient history from charts and physician requisitions.
  • Position patient with correct coil and immobilize per safety standards.
  • Utilize MRI equipment to produce axial, sagittal, coronal and oblique images.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and assist radiologist with protocol development and imaging factors.
  • Supervise radiologic technologist students during clinical instruction.
  • Maintain knowledge of MRI developments and observe infection control procedures.

Job Summary

Perform a variety of technical procedures by exposure of a static magnetic field and the application of Radio frequency waves to obtain superb quality images for interpretation by a radiologist, ensure patient safety and provide excellent customer services.

Duties & Responsibilities

Prepare and calibrate the MRI unit for daily operations on both low and high field magnets.
Be able to select proper imaging parameters base on an individual patient basis.

Be able to screen patients and visitors prior to entering MR procedure room.

Assess patient physical condition with respect to patient’s tolerance to complete the exam.

Be able to clearly explain to the patient the MRI exam and what to expect.
Verify and/or obtain informed consent for examinations requiring consent.

Obtain and record patient history from the patient’s chart referring physician requisitions and/or by interviewing the patient.

Place patient on proper gurney for proper imaging position.

Place proper coil for satisfactory examination.

Protect and immobilize patient in accordance with prescribed safety standards.
Utilizes a wide variety of technical equipment including computers, radio frequency generators, gradient coils, multi-format cameras, film processors, and other miscellaneous equipment to produce MRI images.

Utilize complex algorithms to produce axial, sagittal, coronal and oblique MRI images.

Label imaging medium to be interpreted by the radiologist.

Ability to troubleshoot an equipment problem and report to proper personnel.
Assist the radiologist in modifying and developing new imaging protocols.
Assist in development of technical factors and image medium selection.
Participate in continuing educational in-service for technical staff and other hospital support staff.

Participate in clinical instruction and supervision of radiological technologist students.

Maintain a thorough knowledge of the latest development in the MRI field.
Practice sterile technique and follow infection control procedure.
Observe hospital policies as well as local, state and federal regulation.
Maintain ethical conduct with all medical and non-medical personnel.
Maintain a clean and orderly working area.
Perform other related duties as assigned and/or required.

Requirements

Satisfactory completion of a formal school of radiological technology approved by AMA. CPR Certification Required. A registered technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist. Minimum one year of MRI experience or be MRI certified by ARRT.
