Job summary

Responsibilities

• Performs complex MRI tasks following prescribed safety procedures and patient screening.
• Verifies patient, site, positioning, and scan parameters for each exam.
• Positions patients using immobilization devices for high-quality images.
• Administers contrast media when indicated and educates patients on risks and instructions.
• Sends images to PACS and demonstrates basic PACS knowledge.
• Evaluates MRI image quality, labels, and routes to interpreting radiologist.
• Ensures correct charging of procedures and supplies.
• Participates in performance improvement and survey readiness activities.
• Demonstrates professional behavior aligned with Radiology service standards.

Job description

Completes a variety of tasks involved in the performance of MRI scans.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

• - ## Performs complex specialized tasks associated with the operation of the MRI scanner in accordance with prescribed MRI safety procedures, including all patient screening procedures.
• - ## Assures that for all scans correct patient, imaging site, patient positioning, correct protocols and scan parameters are verified.
• - ## Positions and instructs patients for MRI scans using immobilization, support, and protective devices.
• - ## Administers contrast media, if indicated; screens and educates patients regarding contrast media, possible reactions, and post procedure contrast instructions; implements emergency procedures in response to contrast media reactions.
• - ## Able to successfully send images to PACS and demonstrate basic knowledge of PACS software.
• - ## Evaluates MRI scans for technical quality, collates processed images, in sequence of exposure, and appropriately labels.
• - ## Routes images and appropriate history electronically to the interpreting radiologist.
• - ## Ensures correct charging of procedures and supplies.
• - ## Participates in department performance improvement and survey readiness activities.
• - ## Demonstrates behaviors consistent with Radiology service standards.
• - ## Provides patient care and education according to the patient population served.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• - ## Knowledge of and ability to operate x-ray and MRI equipment and perform studies on all populations served at BTNRH.
• - ## Ability to place IVs in patients for studies requiring IV contrast.
• - ## Ability to communicate with and instruct patients of all age groups served at BTNRH.
• - ## Ability to operate PACS.
• - ## Ability to use a personal computer and perform data entry.
• - ## Ability to work with minimal direct supervision.
• - ## Ability to cover call for MRI within a 30-minute response time.
• - ## Successfully completes all required continuing education.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• - ## Graduate of an AMA approved, accredited School of Radiologic Technology or an Education in Radiologic Technology from an approved program in the U.S. Military required.
• - ## ARRT in Radiography and MRI within 90-days of transfer or hire required.
• - ## CPR Certified required.
• - ## If employed in the Cognitive Neuroscience department, Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of transfer or hire required.
• - ## If employed in the Cognitive Neuroscience department, Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative(CITI) certification within 30 days of transfer or hire required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• - ## Minimum of two years' experience preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, EQUIPMENT USAGE, WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• - ## Sedentary to medium work, occasionally having to exert up to 50 pounds of force. The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions, such as in typical office work. Frequently subject to chemical exposure and occasionally subject to fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases or poor ventilation.
