Job description

Sign-On Bonus: $2,500!

Major Responsibilities:

  1. Positioning and immobilization of patients and proper selection of protocols, including computer reformatting of acquired data to obtain magnetic resonance scans of optimal diagnostic quality.
  2. Selects appropriate technical factors on an individual patient and procedure basis to provide optimal quality exams.
  3. Performs post-processing of computer data to enhance data and image information.
  4. Operates support equipment for MRI such as capnography monitors, power injectors, and post-processing programs.
  5. Initiates IVs for contrast media administration for MRI enhancement following department policy.
  6. Accurately reviews patient charges; modifies or initiates additional charges as needed.
  7. Produces CDs upon request by patients or physicians.
  8. Coordinates scheduling and transportation of inpatients.
  9. Maintains MRI patient log in schedule books, including adding patients to the schedule.
  10. Documents data necessary for Quality Improvement and QA.
  11. Secures pertinent patient history to aid radiologist in exam interpretation and ensure procedure criteria are met.
  12. Obtains complete allergy history for safe contrast media administration.
  13. Ensures all images are sent to PACS.
  14. Scans patient documents into their folder and reviews exams prior to radiologist interpretation.
  15. Responsible for charging patient examinations and contrast as needed.
  16. Starts and completes exams in RadNet.
  17. Complies with safety standards to ensure the well-being of patients and staff, including proper safety procedures and incident reporting.
  18. Initiates emergency medical support requests as indicated.
  19. Documents allergic reactions according to policy.
  20. Transfers patients to/from MRI table, maintaining comfort and safety.
  21. Maintains a clean work environment.
  22. Identifies each patient correctly using two forms of ID before exams.
  23. Screens all patients and personnel entering the magnet room.
  24. Prepares patients by changing into hospital gowns or pajamas.
  25. Maintains appropriate stock of medical supplies.
  26. Prepares the scan room and ensures supplies are ready for procedures.
  27. Stays updated on MRI protocols and emerging technologies.
  28. Provides instruction and assistance to staff and students as needed.
  29. Maintains positive relations with patients and colleagues.
  30. Assists scheduling personnel with patient scheduling according to protocols.

Education/Experience Required:

  • Graduate of a 2-year Radiology or MRI program, ARRT or ARMRIT certified.
  • Completion of formal MRI course at Junior College level or above, or equivalent.
  • Experience with various age groups and understanding of their needs is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and MRI/MRA protocols.
  • Understanding of MRI physics and safety.
  • Board eligible for MRI certification.
  • CPR certification.

Physical Requirements and Conditions:

  • Flexible working hours, including responding to on-call requests and overtime.
  • Attend annual inservices and continuing education seminars.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds; patient handling equipment used for heavier lifts.
