Major Responsibilities:
- Positioning and immobilization of patients and proper selection of protocols, including computer reformatting of acquired data to obtain magnetic resonance scans of optimal diagnostic quality.
- Selects appropriate technical factors on an individual patient and procedure basis to provide optimal quality exams.
- Performs post-processing of computer data to enhance data and image information.
- Operates support equipment for MRI such as capnography monitors, power injectors, and post-processing programs.
- Initiates IVs for contrast media administration for MRI enhancement following department policy.
- Accurately reviews patient charges; modifies or initiates additional charges as needed.
- Produces CDs upon request by patients or physicians.
- Coordinates scheduling and transportation of inpatients.
- Maintains MRI patient log in schedule books, including adding patients to the schedule.
- Documents data necessary for Quality Improvement and QA.
- Secures pertinent patient history to aid radiologist in exam interpretation and ensure procedure criteria are met.
- Obtains complete allergy history for safe contrast media administration.
- Ensures all images are sent to PACS.
- Scans patient documents into their folder and reviews exams prior to radiologist interpretation.
- Responsible for charging patient examinations and contrast as needed.
- Starts and completes exams in RadNet.
- Complies with safety standards to ensure the well-being of patients and staff, including proper safety procedures and incident reporting.
- Initiates emergency medical support requests as indicated.
- Documents allergic reactions according to policy.
- Transfers patients to/from MRI table, maintaining comfort and safety.
- Maintains a clean work environment.
- Identifies each patient correctly using two forms of ID before exams.
- Screens all patients and personnel entering the magnet room.
- Prepares patients by changing into hospital gowns or pajamas.
- Maintains appropriate stock of medical supplies.
- Prepares the scan room and ensures supplies are ready for procedures.
- Stays updated on MRI protocols and emerging technologies.
- Provides instruction and assistance to staff and students as needed.
- Maintains positive relations with patients and colleagues.
- Assists scheduling personnel with patient scheduling according to protocols.
Education/Experience Required:
- Graduate of a 2-year Radiology or MRI program, ARRT or ARMRIT certified.
- Completion of formal MRI course at Junior College level or above, or equivalent.
- Experience with various age groups and understanding of their needs is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Basic knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and MRI/MRA protocols.
- Understanding of MRI physics and safety.
- Board eligible for MRI certification.
- CPR certification.
Physical Requirements and Conditions:
- Flexible working hours, including responding to on-call requests and overtime.
- Attend annual inservices and continuing education seminars.
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds; patient handling equipment used for heavier lifts.
