Job summary

HDR is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our Bridges and Structures team in Metairie, LA. You will design and inspect movable bridges, coordinate project workloads, review drawings, and provide on-site and office support for construction activities.

Ideal candidates have 5 years of mechanical design experience on movable structures, a PE license, and a background with engineering consulting firms. Local candidates are preferred and involvement in mentoring junior staff is encouraged.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• PE license required or recognized by licensing board.
• 5 years’ experience in mechanical design on movable bridges.
• Experience with commercial or institutional facilities.
• Experience in mechanical system design of buildings.
• Experience with an engineering consulting firm.
• Local candidates preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical design and inspection (machinery and hydraulics) on movable bridges and other heavy movable structures.
• Coordinate workload to complete on schedule and on budget.
• Review mechanical documents.
• Perform inspections and write associated reports.
• Write/edit mechanical specifications and select equipment, systems and devices.
• Provide construction support as needed.
• Conduct QA/QC and coordinate with other Mechanical Engineers, Coordinators or Technicians.
• Work will include a mixture of office and field work and may require travel.
• Mentor younger mechanical staff.
