Job summary

HDR is a trusted engineering firm where employee-owners collaborate to deliver high‑impact projects. As a Mechanical Engineer, you’ll design and inspect machinery and hydraulics for movable bridges and other heavy structures, coordinate workload to meet schedules, review documents, and provide construction support.

You’ll mentor junior engineers, perform QA/QC, and work a mix of office and field tasks with some travel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
• Experience in mechanical system design of commercial or institutional buildings is preferred.
• PE license (Professional Engineer) is required per licensing board.
• Experience in commercial or institutional facilities is preferred.
• MS Office, Trane TRACE or similar software experience is required.
• Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm is preferred.
• Active participation in employee-owned culture is expected.

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical design and inspection on movable bridges and heavy movable structures.
• Coordinate workload to complete on schedule and on budget.
• Review mechanical documents.
• Perform inspections and write associated reports.
• Write/edit mechanical specifications and select equipment, systems and devices.
• Provide construction support as needed.
• Conduct QA/QC and coordinate with other Mechanical Engineers, Mechanical Coordinators or Technicians.
• Work will include a mix of office and field work and may require travel.
• Mentor younger mechanical staff.
