The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is seeking a part-time Motor Vehicle Operator to support transportation and asset movement across NYC facilities. Duties include picking up visitors to jails, distributing meals, inspecting tires and fluids, reporting mechanical defects, and loading or unloading items from trucks; rotating shifts may apply.

A NY CDL permit is required at the time of offer. The role is based on Rikers Island and benefits include health, leave, pension, and pre-tax

• Pick up food and distribute to jails across the NYC area.

The DOC is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for our employees, visitors, volunteers, and people in our custody. Importantly, safe jails enable DOC to provide people in custody with the tools and opportunities they need to successfully re-enter their communities. The DOC operates facilities and court commands across the five boroughs with more than 7,500 diverse professionals and knowledgeable experts.

MOTOR VEHICLE OPERATOR - 91212

The Department of Correction is looking for a Motor Vehicle Operator (PT). Candidate selected for this title may be required to work rotating shifts, including nights, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. Tasks also include but are not limited to,

• Picking up visitors from Brooklyn or Manhattan and taking them to jails in Brooklyn or Manhattan (Harlem) so they can visit their loved ones.
• Picking up food and distributing it to various jails throughout the NYC area.
• Checking the tires, oil and fuel of the vehicle, replenishes fluids as needed, and checks the vehicle to see that lights, horns and brakes appear to be operating properly.
• Reporting any noticeable mechanical defects in the vehicle.
• Cleaning the windows and interior and exterior of the vehicle.
• Changing the tires and/or wheels on their assigned vehicle.
• Responsible for loading & Off-loading of items on trucks driven

A CDL Permit is required at the time of the job offer.

Education and Experience Requirements: There are no formal education or experience requirements.

Driver License Requirement: By the time you are appointed to this position, you must have a motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York. If you have moving violations, license suspension(s) or an accident record, you may be disqualified. This license must be maintained for the duration of your employment.
