Job summary

Brooklyn Public Library is seeking a Motor Vehicle Operator to operate library vehicles and move furniture, equipment, books and other materials as assigned. You will maintain vehicles for safe operation and report on activities in a timely manner.

The role is full-time and unionized, with a hiring salary of $46,446.40. Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent and a NYS driver’s license, with the ability to lift heavy objects and work varied shifts.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Valid New York State driver’s license required.
• Able to lift heavy objects (60 lbs or more).
• Able to use small hand tools.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently.
• Excellent verbal & written communication skills.
• Able to work all shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays.

• Transport Library staff safely to locations as directed.

• Assist in packing & unpacking Library books and materials.

Overview

Under supervision, the Motor Vehicle Operator will operate Library vehicles and be dispatched to move, transport, pickup and deliver furniture, equipment, books and other supplies and materials as assigned. Also, responsible for maintaining the vehicles driven to ensure safe operation and acceptable mechanical condition.

This is a full-time, union, non-exempt positions. The hiring salary for this position is $46,446.40.
