Job summary

The Catalina Island Company is seeking a part-time Motor Tour Driver to safely operate a commercial vehicle while delivering informative narration and outstanding guest service on tours around Catalina Island.

A valid CDL with passenger endorsement is required, along with a clean driving record and the ability to engage groups. Housing may be available; pay is $25.35 per hour with a flexible schedule.

These tours provide exceptional customer service while transporting passengers and conducting tours throughout Catalina Island. This role delivers guided narration during tours while delivering customer experience and adhering to safety standards and schedules.This role REQUIRES a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) and clean commercial driving recordJOB RESPONSIBILITIESJob duties include, but are not limited to:Safely operate a commercial motor vehicle or bus in compliance with all local, state and federal transportation lawsMaintain a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and clean commercial driving recordPerform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report maintenance issuesFollow all company safety policies and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulationsEnsure passenger safety during boarding, transport, and disembarkingGreet guests in a friend and professional mannerProvide clear, engaging narration on tour including local history, landmarks and various points of interestAnswer guest questions and provide recommendations when appropriateCreate a positive, courteous, and enjoyable experience for all guestsVerify tickets, guest counts and tour manifestsMaintain accurate driving logs, inspection reports, and incident documentationEnsure exemplary customer serviceOther duties as assignedQUALIFICATIONSREQUIRES a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with passenger endorsementClean commercial driving record (subject to DMV and DOT review)Previous commercial driving or tour driving experienceStrong verbal communication and public speaking skillsStrong customer service focused with a friendly profession demeanorMust be able to deliver a commentary while driving passengersAbility to work in a fast-paced, deadline driven environmentComfortable speaking to groups in a dynamic environmentDETAILSPosition Type: Part TimeStart Date: January 2027HOUSINGThe Catalina Island Company offers shared housing as an option for eligible employees at a subsidized rate. Employees are responsible for paying a portion of the housing cost, typically deducted through payroll.Accommodation generally includes shared bedrooms, shared bathrooms and a community kitchen. Housing is subject to availability and cost will vary based on location.PAY TRANSPARENCYThe pay scale for this position is $25.35 per hour.PLEASE NOTE: This position is covered by the Teamsters Automotive, Industrial, Theme Park, Service Sector and Allied Workers Local No. 495 (“Teamsters”) Collective Bargaining Agreement.WORK ENVIRONMENT/ PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSThis position primarily takes place outdoors and may involve exposure to varying weather conditions including sun, wind, and occasional rain. Must be comfortable and able to sit and drive for up to 6-8 hours per day. Employees should be comfortable working at heights, on uneven terrain, and performing physical tasks such as walking, climbing, or lifting equipment. Safety, communication, and guest engagement are top priorities while ensuring a fun and memorable experience for all participants. Requires dexterity, grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity.
