Job summary

Self-Help is seeking a Quality Control & Document Custody Specialist to join our Durham, NC team. This role focuses on managing the doc custody program, audits, and ensuring collateral documents are complete and properly endorsed.

Responsibilities include monitoring GSE and regulatory requirements, addressing deficiencies, and supporting audits. Strong communication, analytical skills, and Excel proficiency are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred; three years mortgage processing or lending experience or equivalent
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Mathematical skills for calculations (discounts, interest, percentages)
• Ability to plan, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks
• Experience with MERs, appraisals, CRA or affordable lending is a plus

Responsibilities

• Manage the doc custody program with multiple custodians
• Audit document custodians and verify required collateral files
• Ensure documents are endorsed and assigned correctly
• Monitor GSE requirements and regulatory/compliance needs
• Identify and address deficiencies that affect risk or liquidity
• Support internal/external audits and regulatory exams
• Develop QC testing/review plans and sampling methods
• Coordinate with Lending, Servicing, Legal, Compliance, etc.
• Review and interpret GSE/investor requirements
• Monitor repurchase trends and root causes
• Manage monthly loan repurchases
• Maintain QC documentation and audit trails
• Assist in due diligence for mortgage and consumer loans
